09 monthDNV issues Type Approval Certificate for HX90-A Underwater Locator Beacon to Lingyuan Technology

During the 2026 Hamburg International Maritime Exhibition in Germany, DNV held a Type Approval certificate awarding ceremony at its booth, presenting the HX90-A Underwater Locating Beacon (ULB) Type Approval certificate to Lingyuan Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. ("Lingyuan Technology"). This certification confirms that the product has successfully passed DNV's technical review and validation, supporting its further entry into the international maritime market. Pictured from left to right: Kai Möller, DNV Classification Engineer; Chen Keng, DNV Vice President and Head of Maritime South Region; Bonnie Huang, Account Manager at Lingyuan Technology; Desire Gugelmann, DNV Classification Engineer; and He Zhiping, Key Account Manager for DNV Maritime South Region, who jointly attended and witnessed the ceremony.
Voyage Data Recorders (VDRs) are widely used to record ship operational data, functioning similarly to "black boxes" in aviation. The HX90-A Underwater Locating Beacon is a critical component of both VDRs and Simplified Voyage Data Recorders (SVDRs). In emergency situations, it emits continuous acoustic signals to assist in locating and recovering equipment, playing a vital role in accident investigations and maritime safety.
This marks the first time DNV has issued a Type Approval certificate specifically for an underwater locating beacon designed for VDR applications. During the certification process, DNV completed document reviews, witnessed on-site prototype testing and remote testing, and conducted manufacturer audits. The results confirmed that the HX90-A meets relevant requirements set by the IMO, IEC, and SAE.
The successful completion of this project was made possible through the professional support of DNV Classification Engineer Kai Möller and Surveyor Fan Qiang. Both team members were involved throughout the technical review and certification process, maintaining close collaboration with the client to ensure the project met its timeline and enabling timely market access for the product.
Lingyuan Technology is a high-tech enterprise specializing in underwater acoustic technology research and application, with core expertise covering sonar and acoustic sensor systems.
Through professional technical reviews and certification services, DNV supports the verification of innovative products against international standards. The successful completion of this certification also lays a strong foundation for deeper future collaboration between both parties in the fields of maritime equipment and underwater acoustic technology.
